The FBI has joined the search for a missing Ontario County man who has gone missing while studying in France.
22-year old Ken Deland Jr. of Clifton Springs was last seen in a sporting goods store about an hour train ride from his campus. Deland’s mother, Carol Laws, spoke last night with CBS news.
Deland is a St. John Fisher student, he graduated from Midlakes High School in 2019.
State Senator Pam Helming, who said DeLand previously interned in her office, released a statement Monday.
“News of Ken’s disappearance is worrisome and has certainly taken everyone by surprise. I first met Ken when he was a senior in high school and presented him with a proclamation at his Eagle Scout ceremony. Ken later became an intern in my Senate office from 2019 to 2020 and brought a positive energy with him every day. I pray that he is found safe and returns home soon to be with his family.”
DeLand’s family members says they had been in constant contact with him during his stay in France, until November 27th, after that the family received a call saying Ken had not showed up to his classes.
Deland’s international studies were set to end this weekend and his visa is set to expire in January.
